As someone who does real art partly professionally, it's basically the art market. Steez wars MMO. Show off your wealth- sometimes "publically" in places like reddit -and demonstrate your overall taste in culture to other wigsters. "Cool" and novel things rise in value, but most steady movement is fads/trends.
If the hypebeast theme of this MMO wasn't so obnoxiously hip-hop people might want to do more with it. But it speaks to the castrated sense of interpersonal space in today's world that people would rather store and display expensive creative items on the internet than e.g. fill up a room with real paintings, for the same money.
A lot of the work is definitely good, I mean, interesting as digital art in ways that hadn't been commonly seen prior. But imo it needs curators, since its natural evolution is into something resembling the physical fine art world. Right now it's somewhere between that and digital trading cards.
Rich man's Pinterest? idk.
